2009 Western Regional Younger Member Council

San Francisco, California

January 23 & 24, 2009

The San Francisco Section Younger Member Forum invites you to attend the 2009 Western Regional Younger Member Council meeting in San Francisco, California on Friday and Saturday January 23 and 24, 2009. The 2009 WRYMC session will follow the new ‘2-day’ format and will include an ‘unofficial’ wine cave and wine tasting tour in the Napa Valley. Highlights of the program are presented below. Be sure to check our website regularly for the latest conference information and details.

Thursday, January 22, 2009 (“Unofficial” Event)

We will depart the Holiday Inn hotel between noon and 1 pm and travel via bus to the Napa Valley, approximately 1 hour north of San Francisco.  We will take a tour of the recently completed Palmaz Wine Cave (http://www.palmazvineyards.com), which will be led by the design engineer from Jacobs Associates, a tunneling specialty design firm located in San Francisco.  Following the wine cave tour, we will visit several more wineries and dine at a restaurant in downtown Napa before returning to San Francisco.  Check the SF Section YMF website for additional details, which will be posted as they become available.

Friday, January 23, 2009

In addition to the regular program activities during the day, a social event will be organized for Friday evening that will allow all San Francisco visitors the opportunity to see some of the sights and local venues unique to San Francisco.  More information will be posted on the SF Section YMF website as details become available, but this is a ‘not to miss’ event!

Saturday, January 24, 2009

A group afternoon field trip to Alcatraz Island has been planned for all WRYMC attendees.  The field trip will allow participants to hear and see first hand the upcoming renovations planned to restore this National Landmark.  Later that evening, the WRYMC awards banquet will be held at the Carnelian Room (www.carnelianroom.com) situated atop the Bank of America Building, with views of San Francisco & the bay.

WRYMC 2009-10 - San Diego

On behalf of the San Diego Section Younger Member Forum, we are pleased to invite you to attend the 2010 Western Regional Younger Member Council (WRYMC), which will take place February 26 to February 27, 2010. The meeting will provide young engineers with exposure to professional development, networking, an overview of ASCE, and highlight select civil engineering works in San Diego.

The Region 8 and 9 Multi-Region Leadership Conference (of which WRYMC is a part) will be held over two days. WRYMC, the Workshop for Section and Branch Leaders, and Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders will all occur during the same weekend, allowing for interaction between younger members, students, and section/branch leaders. The conference will feature an optional pre-conference brewery tour of one of San Diego’s popular microbreweries (space is limited to 50 attendees, so be sure to sign up early!) on Thursday (2/25) and your choice of three tours on Saturday (2/27). On Saturday we will be offering tours of the Water Conservation Garden, the Padre Dam Recycled Water Facility, and the San Vicente Dam Raise.
